Free acrostic puzzle based on the Big Honey Dog Mysteries

One of my older puzzles is at parlance's blog. It is based on a novel from the Big Honey Dog Mysteries by H Y Hanna.

Crostic instructions

This is a crostic puzzle.
You fill in as many of the clues as you can, and then transfer the letters to the diagram. The numbers tell you which square.
On the diagram the letters tell you which clue the answer is from.
You try to guess some of the words in the passage (it is NOT a crossword) and fill them in, and transfer letters back to the clues.
You do not need to know all the answers! One letter words are likely to be "a" or "I",and some 3-letter words may be "The". Or not.
Afterwards the first letters of the clues, reading downwards, generally have the name of the author and the book. Or just the book.
Those who do the ones in puzzle books generally can solve them by getting out four or five of the clues!
As these are just for fun they may not be up to critical standards!
